Glenside Avenue is a street of Pinehurst Manor, running north from Pinedale Avenue across Pinehurst Avenue toward McHugh Avenue, in the grid of streets laid out between Boston Road and Pinedale Avenue in the early 1900s.
It first appears on "Pinehurst Manor, Billerica, Mass., owned by Frank W. Coughlin," drawn by H. A. Millhouse, civil engineer, at Boston in September 1910 and recorded on September 23, 1910 (Plan Book 27, Plan 95). The plan named its streets in sets of pleasant sounding words rather than for people: Glenside and Glenvale Avenues lie side by side, with Montrose, Ellingwood, Endleigh, Egmont and Chesterfield Avenues around them. Coughlin, then of Brookline, also bought tracts at Pinehurst and along the Shawsheen in 1910 to 1913. A 1925 plan of pole locations for the Lowell Electric Light Corporation shows the same streets, "all streets 40 feet in width."
The town laid water mains on Pinehurst and Glenside Avenues under a vote of 1924, and further mains on Glenside, Chesterfield and Ellingwood Avenues in 1928. At a town meeting on July 17, 1950 it voted that "Glenside Avenue be accepted to its southerly end, as or for a public highway," from Pinehurst Avenue, and on March 13, 1954 it accepted the laying out of about 600 feet more and voted $650 to improve it. The town's printed list of accepted streets also gives "Glenside Ave. 500 ft. from Pinehurst Ave. 2-9-29," but the votes of February 9, 1929 accepted 300 feet of Glenvale Avenue, not Glenside, and the entry appears to be a mistake. Glenside Avenue was not among the roads of the 1831 map accepted by town meeting in 2016.
